At yet another W.E. premier in New York at the Ziegfeld Theater, director Madonna distinguished herself by going retro. She had her hair done in fingerwaves and wore a 1930’s inspired evening gown, similar to the look her characters in the movie have.

ELLE MACPHERSON: IS IT POSSIBLE TO LOOK GOOD AND HAVE FUN, TOO?

Having seen the myriad of flouncy form fitting mermaid dresses on the Golden Globes red carpet, we find ourselves puzzled in many ways. Besides wondering how Angelina managed to arrive without wrinkling her dress, we cannot figure out how Elle Macpherson (who looks dazzling) and many others similarly attired, managed to actually SIT DOWN for the dinner and show. How many seats did they take up? Where did they stuff their long trains? How did they manage to attend the crowded parties with those extended trains? Also, few people realize that the temperature in the Beverly Hilton is adjusted low so that men in tuxedos don’t get too hot. (The banquet manager told us.) That means the women in strapless dresses are FREEZING. Looking pretty is NOT easy.

Can somebody tell us how Angelina managed to arrive at the event in a limo and get out without a SINGLE wrinkle on her delicate satin dress? Did she have a steamer in the back seat? How is this possible?

GEORGE CLOONEY MAKES SURE HIS DATES ARE RED CARPET READY

There’s a price to pay when you’re George Clooney’s girlfriend. Of course the perks are obvious – tropical and European vacations, shopping sprees, and good company. But part of the deal is endless red carpet events – at this time of year especially. George, 50, is committed to numerous film premiers, publicity events, film festivals, and award shows. He flies all over the USA and back and forth to Europe – sometimes for 3 or 4 major events in a week. That means his girlfriend must be red carpet ready with a different designer dress for every appearance! Since no normal woman could pull that off without help, we’re thinking George hires a stylist to dress up Stacy Keibler for all these occasions, with hair and makeup thrown in too. (Knowing George, we bet she gets to KEEP the dresses she likes.) Stacy, 32, may be exhausted, but George will always make sure she looks good at his side!

Lindsay Lohan got a job modeling in ads for German Designer Philipp Plein, and the photos just came out. Phillipp was using Mischa Barton as his model until September 2011, when he was seen keeping company with Lindsay in Italy for Milan Fashion Week. Now Lindsay has replaced Mischa!

“Lovelace,” the biography of Linda Lovelace, who starred in the x-rated movie “Deep Throat,” is filming in LA, and stars Amanda Seyfried and Peter Sarsgaard really have that 70’s vibe. Amanda is wearing a high waisted denim skirt and Peter’s in polyester. Men did look awful in those days! It’s odd to see people in 70’s fashions with cell phones in hand. Sharon Stone, Demi Moore, Hank Azaria, and Eric Roberts are also in the cast.

Breakout star from A&E’s top rated reality show “Storage Wars” is 60ish Barry Weiss and he’s proved to be catnip for women of a certain age. Barry’s got oodles of style – he wears vintage clothing and drives amazing collectible cars, and he’s quick with a wisecrack. A cool cat. Just what women want. We couldn’t help but laugh when we heard that Rosie O’Donnell and six “casually dressed” friends were turned away by security guards at the door at Sean “Diddy” Combs’ fancy Miami New Year’s Eve party. We picture Rosie’s buddies as being no-nonsense hefty athletic girls like herself – dressed in t shirts, baggy shorts and crocs. No makeup or stilettos there. Uninformed guards would certainly be prone to refuse entrance to such a group – they know their boss Diddy favors sexy hot young girls. Maybe if the gals had dressed for the occasion it would have been a different story.

Not only are they on very high platforms but they lace all the way up to the top thigh. Putting them on can’t be so easy and taking them off to try something on would be a real nuisance. But she looks quite proud of her impractical footwear.

Kids who grow up in a rock star family can’t help it – they just might inherit their parents’ ideas about fashion. Kingston Rossdale, 5, already fusses about his hair styles and loves to pick out his own clothes. As a result he looks like an English rock star. His mom Gwen Stefani is a pop star and a successful designer with collections for both adults and kids, so she gives her boys plenty of options. Daddy, Gavin Rossdale, IS an English rock star, so Kingston has no shortage of inspiration. We love his plaid pants with the Chesterfield blazer and vest.

Prince William and Kate Middleton were photographed leaving a charity event at Albert Hall and Kate continues to endear herself to the Brits because she wore a moderately priced frock from Zara. No surprise – the dress immediately sold out online. Even Madonna, who was quite an outrageous dresser when she was Kate’s age, says she is a fan. Madonna gave her something of a back-handed compliment when she said “She developed a style and stuck with it whether people were interested or not. I admire her individuality.”

SLAIN DICTATOR MUAMMAR GADDAFI WAS A FANCY MAN

We never realized that the late Muammar Gaddafi was considered something of a fashion icon in the Middle East. The dictator was a closet dandy! When his body was brought to the hospital they took a sample of his hair to confirm his identity and it turned out he was wearing a toupee! He had also turned to plastic surgery to keep himself looking youthful, and had his shoe heels built up to make himself taller. But his fashions trough the years are quite entertaining. Above, he must have been going through an “Elvis” phase.
